The Michigan Chapter of NAHRO is pleased to offer a one day seminar that will feature two sessions for Michigan Housing Commission Executive Directors and their staff.
Session One: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Presenter: Bryan Proven, Special Agent, HUD Office of Inspector General (OIG), Detroit Field Office
The Art of Persuasion is a presentation that covers the science behind deception and how different psychological tactics can be used to detect client deception or encourage people to be more truthful with reporting income and information. Several principles may be applied for Housing Commissions to conduct more effective client interviews of current and prospective clients. Some common fraud schemes will be presented and what can you do to detect fraud!
Fugitive Felon Initiative. The OIG has been communicating information to Michigan Housing Commissions relative to fugitives that are receiving federal financial assistance. The process for identifying fugitives by the OIG, Housing Commission notification and the reporting process will be presented for discussion. The OIG is requesting a dialog to understand the purpose, expectations and future processes.

Session Two: 1:45 pm to 5:00 pm

Housing Commission Policies and Procedures. This interactive session with Michigan Housing Commissions will discuss the importance of establishing effective policies and what policies are auditors and the OIG placing a strong emphasis on. Specific polices to be reviewed are Procurement, Internal Controls, Succession Planning, Agency By-Laws, Travel and others as time permits.
Registration is required and the cost to cover the box lunch is $20.00 per person. The registration form is attached and should be completed and forwarded to the Michigan NAHRO Service Officer, Cheryl Anne Farmer.
